Description

Canadian C7

The Canadian C7 is a Canadian license-produced version of the US Colt Model 715 (M16) assault rifle. Technical data package was provided by Colt to the Canadian Government. However Canadian Diemaco reviewed the design and made over 150 changes to this weapon, before it entered production. These changes include materials and manufacturing processes. The Canadian C7 was adopted as a standard-issue infantry rifle in 1984. This weapon has been exported to Denmark, Netherlands and Norway. In 2005 Diemaco was acquired by Colt Defense and became known as Colt Canada Corporation. It is estimated that more than 200 000 of these Canadian assault rifles and its variants were produced to this day. The C7 saw action during numerous military conflicts, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Canadian C7 is a gas operated, selective fire weapon. It is chambered for a standard NATO 5.56×45 mm ammunition. At the time of its introduction the C7 could be considered as one of the best assault rifles in the world. It is a reliable, accurate and comfortable to fire weapon. Also it has an ergonomic design.

The Canadian C7 and its variants have been adopted as the standard issue rifle by the militaries of Canada, Norway (Special forces only), Denmark and the Netherlands. Following trials, C8 variants are general issue firearms for the United Kingdom’s Special Forces and other specialist users within the British military. It has been utilized in various combat deployments by Canadian, British, Norwegian, Dutch and Danish Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Canadian C7 features fully ambidextrous controls, which American M4s do not, and all parts are made in Canada to the highest standards. The barrels are cold hammer forged and made from chrome moly vanadium steel. This process and material creates extremely tough barrels that will last a very long time, and are superior to American M4 barrels, which are just machined with button rifling. The chrome lining on the chamber is also more resilient to extreme temprature change and heat stress than the M4 chrome lining.
